Switzerland

Founded in 1559, the University of Geneva (UNIGE) is dedicated to research, teaching and public dialogue. With 19’000 students of more than 140 different nationalities, it is Switzerland’s second largest university. UNIGE is a member of the League of European Research, the Coimbra Group and the European University Association.

Founded in 1886, the Department of Sociology is one of the oldest of this discipline in the world. Today, the Department and the Institute of sociological research (ISR) count about 80 researchers and teachers and is the most important sociology school in Switzerland, with a plurality of projects and mandates at the international, national and local levels. The ISR was created in January 2015, sociology of public action and social policies, as well as participative methodologies, are among its main fields of expertise.
